File to be a candidate for Benton County Sheriff
When will the Sheriff contest appear on the ballot?
- This office will appear in the 2026 Election cycle.
- If three or more candidates file for the office of Sheriff, this contest will appear on the Primary Election ballot.
- If any candidate receives a majority of votes cast (50% plus one vote), that candidate alone is nominated and will appear on the General Election ballot.
- If no candidate receives a majority of the votes cast in the Primary Election, the two candidates receiving the most votes will appear on the General Election ballot.
- If two or fewer candidates file for the office of Sheriff, the race will appear only on the General Election ballot.

- Citizen of the United States at the time of taking office and for the length of time in office.
- Resident of the state of Oregon for at least one year prior to the time of filing for office.
- Registered voter of Benton County at the time of taking office and for the length of time in office.
- At least 21 years of age at the time of taking office.
- At least four years of full-time law enforcement experience, or at least two years of post-high school education at the time of filing for office.
- No criminal convictions which would keep the person from being certified at the time of filing for office and for the length of time in office.
- Must provide proof of certification or eligibility for certification by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training no later than the 61st day prior to the Primary Election and maintain it for the length of time in office.
File by Fee
- Fee is $50.00.
- Submit completed and signed SEL101.
- Submit F25, Eligibility Form.
- Filing will be posted after F25 has been submitted.
File by Petition
- File SEL101, SEL121 and SEL338 before collecting signatures.
- TBA valid signatures are required.
- Submit signatures to the Elections Office by TBA for enough processing time before the filing deadline.
- Submit F25, Eligibility Form.
- Filing will be posted after F25 has been submitted.
